West Vancouver, BC
Fisheries and Oceans Canada is working with a variety of First Nations, researchers and community partners to transform its oceanfront research facility in West Vancouver into the Pacific Science Enterprise Centre (PSEC), a world class hub for scientific collaboration and public engagement.
Architects O4A developed a Master Plan for the redevelopment of the site, balancing the requirements of dedicated and secure research labs, flexible program areas where partners and education groups may collaborate with PSEC scientists, and public interpretive spaces to engage visitors in the science happening here – to better understand and sustain our aquatic environment.
A series of stakeholder workshops focused on the research stories to be shared, visitor experiences desired, and how public and program spaces might be organized to coordinate with ongoing research operations across the site. Doug assisted with workshop facilitation, provided rapid sketch visualizations of potential experiences, and developed diagrammatic layouts of interpretive areas to assist with architectural programming and concepts.
